Community Church of PK Lake began with a meeting at the home of Tom and Maxine Darington on Frontier Unit Road at the end of 1974. Eventually the small meeting room at the PK Lion’s Club facility was rented for $25 per Sunday for services. The Brazos River Authority issued a lease to Community Church of PK Lake for a 3.5-acre tract in December 1977 on FM 2353 North of Murray’s Grocery (now Kent Kwik) where we continue our mission today
In 1979, 1 Gram Place built the original church building shell. The members completed the inside of the church on weekly work nights and the upstairs was the final portion to be completed in 1984. Mrs. T. W. Reilley donated a stained-glass window for the sanctuary and in 1980 Kathy Groves explained the significance of the colors and symbols of this window at a dedication service.
For the new sanctuary expansion completed in April 2000, Kirby and Kathy Groves, their sons Kevin and Kerry, and their families, donated another stained-glass window dedicated to the parents and grandparents of our congregation.
In 1981, Community Church began a missions program giving 10% of all undesignated contributions to local, home, and foreign missions. The official name of Community Church of P.K. Lake was also adopted in 1981.
Janis Alling organized and led the Big “A” after school program for the area kids in 1982 and the program name was changed in 1993 to K.I.D.S. (Kids in Devine Service) . Today this is continued as CCPK Kids.
In 1991 Carol Belding organized the Jail Ministry program to provide a Christmas packet to Palo Pinto County Jail inmates. This program continues today for both Palo Pinto and Young County Jails.
In 1986 Leta and D. H. Ward, Martha Layton’s parents, donated the pulpit and communion table. Many improvements have been added such as a community playground in 2002, a focal point of three crosses installed in the church yard by the Men’s Fellowship Group in 2003, and a lending library began organizing in 2004.
On July 23, 2013, an electrical fire burned the church. But the fires did not stop the members and community from rallying. The members continued to meet at Charlies Angels for more than a year. The ground breaking for the new church building was on January 12, 2014, and the first service held in the new building was on November 23, 2014. The pulpit bible survived the fires, and is in the church building to this day.
Today, the church is thriving and offers many ministries to the members and community. We have had a long-term Youth and Children’s program, Small Groups were brought back in 2024, Branches of Love (Food and Serving ministry) was birthed in 2024, Young Adults, Men’s ministry and Women’s ministry all re-activated in 2025.
At CCPK, we are more than just a church; we are a vibrant, interdenominational family dedicated to serving our community and sharing the love of Christ. Our mission is to deepen our relationship with Christ and help others do the same. Guided by the vision of Pastor Jack, we embrace three core values:
Love God: We believe in worshiping and honoring God in all that we do.
Invest in Families: We strive to support and nurture families, fostering a loving and supportive environment.
Sow into Our Community: We are committed to making a positive impact in our local community through service and outreach.
